We are pleased to announce the winner of the third Visa d’Or Online: Ahmad Hasaballah for his work on Gaza. The Visa d’Or Online awards were created to complement the festival’s year-round support for photographers, between the September editions, during which we already distribute more than 144,000 euros in prizes thanks to our partners. Endowed with 1,500 euros by the Douglas Kirkland Estate, these Visa d’Or awards aim to support a recent project by offering not only the prize money but also visibility on our social media platforms and at the next edition of the festival.
About the Report
The consequences of the war in Gaza did not end when the guns fell silent. This report follows daily life in the wake of years of destruction, where survival itself has become a form of resistance.
It begins at the sealed gates of Gaza, where humanitarian aid struggles to get through while communities remain trapped in the midst of a humanitarian crisis. Across the territory, entire neighborhoods lie in ruins, forcing families to live in makeshift shelters and leaving many of them without reliable access to water, sanitation, or basic services.
Even under a fragile ceasefire, death continues to disrupt daily life. Families gather in hospitals and cemeteries to mourn their loved ones killed in repeated strikes, while new attacks cause further destruction in areas already ravaged by war.
Yet, amid the losses, residents continue to find ways to cope. Long lines form outside community kitchens that feed hungry families. Children wounded by the war receive medical care, while survivors relearn how to walk with prosthetic limbs. Workers clear away trash, recycle debris from destroyed homes, and piece together the fragments of a collapsed economy.
The latest images reveal something more powerful than the devastation. Students are taking their exams, barbers are reopening their shops, soccer is resuming on damaged fields, and children are playing, swimming, and celebrating religious holidays amid the ruins.
Together, these photographs document not only the lasting consequences of the war, but also the determination of the people of Gaza to preserve their dignity, their community, and their hope as they live in its aftermath.
