About the exhibition
Ten years after the fall of its caliphate in the Middle East, the Islamic State has quietly rebuilt its forces in an arid and rugged region of northern Somalia. Through a masterful investigation, the Washington Post has shed light on the scale of this struggle in the remote provinces of one of the world's poorest countries. Carolyn Van Houten, a photojournalist for the American daily newspaper, was able to follow Somali soldiers and document their hunt for Islamic fighters in caves recently discovered in Puntland.
